STACK

(Students Teach Adults Computer Knowledge)

Through this “e-literacy” intergenerational program, high school students use their skills to teach older adults computer knowledge. Teens, who are paired with a senior for the 6-week duration, are given an important opportunity to utilize their skills in a positive way, and seniors are given the opportunity to keep pace with the modern world. This pairing promotes positive relationship building in a fun, relaxed, non-threatening atmosphere. Both generations learn from each other. From Internet research to e-mail to banking on-line, older adults feel more a part of today’s society. The national Association of Area Agencies chose this program as a “Champion Program” in 2004.

STACK continues to bring together curious adults that want to maintain and acquire computer skills with high school students that are ready to volunteer to share their knowledge off all things tech! Although we were only able to run programs in two sites this year in Gorton High School in Yonkers and White Plains High School, we were full to the brim with students and teachers. We even had a waiting list!
